Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann was appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Kansas City in Kansas in 2004, and became on January 15, 2005, the 4th Archbishop and the 11th Bishop for the Archdiocese of Kansas City.  In 2015, he also served several months as the Apostolic Administrator for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph.  Archbishop Naumann is Chair of the Kansas Catholic Conference and currently serves as a member of the USCCB Administrative Committee, USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities, USCCB Religious Liberty Committee, the USCCB Communications Committee, and the Sub Committee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage.  In November 2017, Archbishop Naumann was elected to serve as the next Chair of USCCB Pro-Life Committee.  His three-year term as Pro-Life Chair begins in November 2018.  Archbishop Naumann also serves on the Board of National Committee for the Human Life Amendment, and is the Co-Chair for the Religious Alliance Against Pornography.

Archbishop Naumann was ordained a priest in 1975. For 11 years of his priestly ministry, he served as a Pastor or Associate Pastor for parishes in the Inner City of St. Louis. In 1995, then Father Naumann was appointed by Archbishop Justin Rigali to serve as Vicar-General for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.  On September 3, l997, he was ordained an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.  In October, 2003, Bishop Naumann was elected Administrator of the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

From 1984 to 1995, Archbishop Naumann served as the Archdiocesan Pro-Life Coordinator in St. Louis.  During his term of leadership, Project Rachel and the Lifeline Coalition (a network of Catholic Hospitals, Pregnancy Centers, Birthrights, Shelters for Pregnant Women and Catholic Charities) were initiated in St. Louis.  Archbishop Naumann was a founding Board Member for the Vitae Foundation, an organization that creates highly researched Pro-Life messages for mass and social media.
